Update on Comer and the Bees

In response to the HL article I posted about earlier, Commissioner James Comer put this on his Facebook.

"I wonder what the hard working taxpayers of KY would have thought if they had paid the bill for the former state beekeeper to go to Bangladesh to a bee conference? I am going to hire an Apiarist; however, we are going to be good stewards of the taxpayer's money.
In the meantime, Kentucky State University, Eastern Kentucky and the University of Kentucky all have programs, research and outreach to answer any questions about beekeeping. Thx." -James Comer

Thank you Commissioner. It's not every day we hear an elected official in Kentucky talk like that. It's truly refreshing.

Voted for Comer once and I sure won't be doing it again. I also won't be trusting someone who was once on his payroll...

Yes, I was once on his campaign payroll but I'm not now. I still adamantly support him because I did work closely with him and I know he's a man of principle. This was not a political move but a move to help save taxpayer money. I'm sure more will come out about it.

Jamie Comer seems to have hit this one straight down the fairway. The Department of Agriculture will be hiring an apiarist to address the important issue of bees in the pollination of crops in Kentucky, but isn't going to be sending someone on a government paid junket to Asia using my tax dollars. How can anyone criticize this?

I'm thinking the negative comment is from the guy who was knocked out of an exotic all expenses paid vacation to Bangladesh?

It's state government, not a game show. We don't need to be giving away vacation packages. That was Richie. This is Jamie.
